I am Rijo M John, pursuing Post Doctoral research at the University of California, San Francisco. My PhD dissertation examines the consumption of tobacco in the context of India. It examines (i) the household behavior on the decision to consume different tobacco products, (ii) own and cross-price responsiveness of various tobacco products, (iii) effects of tobacco expenditure on household resource allocation especially on food, nutrition, education, health, energy, transport, entertainment, and overall welfare.
My Thesis committee consists of Dr. Ganesh Kumar and
Prof: Kirit Parikh (supervisors) and
Dr.Joy de Beyer (committee member).
I hail from Kannur, the nothern district of Kerala. I completed my Graduation (BA, Economics) from
Sacred Heart College, Thevara, Cochin and Masters in Economics (1999-2001) from
Hyderabad Central University. Ph.D dessertation was prepared at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai. My research interests include
Development Economics, Health Economics, Household Behaviour, Economics of Tobacco Control, Poverty & Human development.
